    One of the Deweyan progressiusm six central assumptions is at school, students learn personal, as well as social values.

    In 1994 the 90000 students in the Long Beach California school system became the first in the nation to require K-8 students to wear uniforms.

    Question: What is the purpose of knowledge? What knowledge is of most worth?

    Fact: Educators with a progressive orientation give students a considerable amount of freedom in determing their school experiences. Progressives believe that life is evolving in a positive direction and that human beings, young as well as adults, are good and may be trusted to act in their own best interests.

    CHAPTER 4

    Fact: Legal advice for student teachers:
    *Read the teachers handbook
    *Thoroughly discuss school safety rules and regulations
    *Be aware of the potential hazards associated with any activity to protect children
    *Be certain you know what controls the district has placed on the curriculum you will be teaching
    *Be certain that student records are used to enhance and inform your teaching
    *Document any problems you have with students
