    Question: How common is male chauvinist?

    Fact: Studies have confirmed that women are not being promoted at the same rate as men; few are promoted to top leadership roles. [pg. 219]

    Fact: To be identified as a homosexual means that a person demonstrates a persistent erotic attraction for people of the same sex. Gays and lesbians are not attracted to every same-sex person they see, but when they feel physically and emotionally attracted to someone, that person is consistently someone of the same sex. [pg. 243]
    Question: Should gay rights be pushed more often, or would that just cause an even bigger uproar?

    Advocates for recognizing domestic partnerships emphasize the existence of such laws in Belgium, Denmark, Iceland, Sweden, and Germany.

  6. Question: I somewhat understand the anti-gay attitudes, however why do social groups invest so much time, energy, and hate towards these individuals and not towards child predators and rapists?

    P.S. I don't condone violence, I'm just wondering.

    Informative Fact: Gays and Lesbians who desire state recognized marriage give reasons similar to those of heterosexuals: to make public statements about their commitments to each other, including the pledge to maintain a monogamous relationship.

    Question: what is individual sexism?

    Fact: The term “chauvinist” is reported to have originated with a Frenchman named Chauvin, a zealous soldier intensely loyal to Napoleon Bonaparte.

    Fact: It is harmful and immoral for a child to be abandoned, untouched, unloved, ridiculed, and physically or sexually abused.

    Fact: In 1993, the American Association of University Women (AAUW) commissioned a Harris poll to examine sexual harassment in schools.

    Question: What historical evidence has described the existence of homosexuality?

    Fact: Some people engage in sexual activity with a person of the same sex one time and never again. Some people have only engaged in homosexual acts during unusual and temporary circumstances, such as being in situations where there is no easy access to members of the opposite sex (such as prision or military).

    The United States was the only nation that refused to sign a statement issued by the newly created United Nations that supported equal rights for women.
    What do studies say about who benefits from marriage in our culture?

    As the United States has hardened its resistance to gays in the military, attitudes in other countries have become more tolerant.

    FACT: In tbe 1800's when schools began to increase few men were willing to take the low salary so schools reluctantly began hiring women, AND lowered the salary even more.
    QUESTION: How come the percentage of sexual abuse is so high in AAUW? Should students be watched more closely to prevent this?

    Interesting Fact: I thought that the 1986 study from Harvard and Yale was interesting in saying that women had a 20% chance of marrying at the age of 30, then decreased to 1.3% at the age of 40.

    INTERESTING FACT: I found it interesting that the numbers of those 'comming out' has decreased between 1960 and 1990.

    question: different people, women, percieve things differentlly, so what one women assumes harassment another might not. so could someone charge or accuse a male of harassment?

    fact: 75% of gay men and lesbians have experienced verbal abuse, almost half have been subjected to violent threats, and for 20% or more, the threats were carried out
    question: the thought of putting in gay or lesbian teachers will provide training for other teachers and counselors to be more accepting, well wont that all depend on the teachers and what they are willing to accept them in the first place.

  25. Good questions everyone! Look at our quiz questions about the number of insults and abuses gay students have to put up with from faculty and staff much less their peers. That is not acceptable! You will have to deal with hetereosexism and all of the "isms" as teachers. Focus on those strategies with the book ad projects and the "justics."

    Question: If there is a separation of church and state, than how come fighters of homosexual marriage and civil rights keep using the bible as the key issue against it?

    Is the “glass ceiling” only referenced to women or does it apply to race as well?
    We, the people, should be ashamed that the very laws and practices which were designed to help and protect women are the very laws and practices which prevent women from reporting when they have been raped.

    Why must we identify people by their differences when we were all created differently and so we all have our differences?
    I have a rather unpopular opinion on the topic of this chapter. I am one of “those people” who believe in the literal interpretation of the Bible and believe it teaches homosexuality is a sin. However, so is lying, cheating, gossiping, murder, etc . Hate the sin but love the sinner, we are all sinners, not one any better than the other…we all need the divine intervention of God!
    Tolerance is the positive and cordial effort to understand another’s beliefs, practices, and habits without necessarily sharing or accepting them
