Question: How can we ask parent/guardians to loan us cultural artifacts without offending them?

Question: Some might say that the use of white paper for art supplies is lacking in multiculturalism, but isn’t that just because paper is easier to make when it’s non-colored? After all, crayons can be used to produce different skin colors.

Question: The book suggests 8 interest areas (loud and quite) to include into your classroom. What is the easiest way to include all 8 interest areas and place them according to quite areas being away from loud areas in a small classroom? (Many of the lead teachers at the preschool I work at are having this issue because when Head Start comes in the teachers are getting in trouble for loud areas being near quite areas, but the classrooms lack the space needed to work with!)

Fact: Jean Piaget defines play as a natural and inherent characteristic of individuals found across cultures.
Question: If a child in my classroom has a specific trait or way of doing things that is unique to their culture and is causing teasing or another problem, what is the best way to address that situation? Would it be appropriate to have the child teach the class about their particular difference?

Fact: Token diversity happens when there is only one doll, artifact, manipulative, etc. to represent a certain ethnic group. This minimalizes existance of cultures, reduces their significance, and does not create a cultural classroom. Tokenism should be avoided in the classroom. (p. 326)

Question: The book states that there are four enviornments in the classroom. Physical, social emotional, cognitive, and creative. How do you make your classroom have all of these without overwhelming the students with too much stuff? Quote:"An enviornment that is rich in possibilities for exploring gender, race/ehtnicity, and different ableness sets the science for practicing anti-bias[and multicultural] curriculum." Fact: There are 7 specific areas that your classroom needs to be "ideal" they are learning materials, including all manipulatives, books, toys, props, classroom decorations, and everything written. Art, literature, music and movement, games and play activites, attitudes and behavior, and activities.
